A typical annual physical checks a handful of boxes. Dr. Vassilyadi's approach draws on a broader set of tools — some run in-house, others coordinated through specialists — to build a fuller picture of your health. Here's how that thinking shows up in practice.
Standard panels stop at LDL and total cholesterol. A more complete cardiovascular picture often includes:
Measures the exact volume of plaque-driving particles, not just a total cholesterol number.
A genetic marker for arterial narrowing that standard panels don't test. Checked once, it reveals a risk your family history alone can't.
Detects low-grade arterial inflammation years before it becomes a measurable event.
Beyond bloodwork, a fuller cardiovascular picture can draw on direct imaging:
A CT scan that quantifies calcified plaque buildup in the coronary arteries — the standard imaging benchmark for long-term cardiac risk.
A CT angiogram that can detect soft, non-calcified plaque a calcium score alone can miss. Noninvasive — unlike traditional catheter-based angiography — though it involves contrast and more radiation than CCS, so it's used selectively based on your individual risk profile.
Energy, weight, and long-term disease risk are connected. Depending on your goals, that can mean:
Structured interval training to raise respiratory capacity — one of the strongest predictors of long-term health in the research, and a direct driver of steadier energy through the workday.
Resistance training that improves how efficiently your muscles clear glucose, reducing metabolic risk over time.
Targeted supplementation (such as NAD, CoQ10, and related therapies) aimed at supporting mitochondrial energy production and cellular repair.
Dr. Vassilyadi spent six years in outpatient internal medicine, serving as a primary care physician for a full patient panel — including Medicare, Medicaid, and privately insured patients — while supervising a team of nurse practitioners. That experience gave him a direct view of where traditional primary care breaks down on time and access, which is why he built Axion MD around unhurried, direct-access care instead.
Alongside his outpatient practice, he also served in medical director roles across inpatient rehabilitation, hospice, home health, and hospital respiratory therapy — giving him a broad view of how care is coordinated across a patient's full health journey.
He holds a Master's Degree in Human Nutrition from McGill University in addition to his medical degree, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). His practice bridges evidence-based medicine with functional and nutritional approaches, with particular focus on preventive cardiology, hormone health, and weight management.
As a board-certified internist, Dr. Vassilyadi also manages the full range of adult primary care needs — including diabetes, mental health, ADHD, and hormone optimization — for members who want a single physician managing their complete health picture.
"Under Dr. Photios's comprehensive medical guidance, I lost over half my body weight and significantly rebuilt my strength. He is not just a respected physician; he is a lifesaver."
"Dr Vassilyadi is a great Dr who takes the time to listen to your concerns. He reviews past visits and follows up on anything he thinks might be of concern. I'd recommend him highly"
"Thorough Dr that will explain things in as much detail as possible! I won't see another primary care provider!"
